Tackling the biodiversity crisis requires systemic transformation

The problem with conservation
Have you ever wondered why we have more protected areas and deeper integration of nature into the economy yet the biodiversity extinction crisis keeps getting worse? This is the main problem facing conservation and why it needs to change: it has successfully tackled some of the symptoms, but not the root causes of biodiversity loss.

A new conservation vision
In response to this problem, a coalition of scientists, citizens and change agents from around the globe believe we need a different conservation. One that address the root causes of the biodiversity crisis: the growing gap between people and the rest of nature and destructive forms of economic growth. We call this ‘convivial conservation’.

Convivial Conservation is a growing movement and vision that provides an alternative to current conservation paradigms. One that tackles the biodiversity crisis in a just and diverse way. It proposes systemtic transformation of the conservation sector in coalition with networks from across the Global South and North. It links on-the-ground experimentation with national and global policy and advocacy in support of:

The Convivial Conservation Centre supports this new vision by:

  1. Changing the conservation conversation
  2. Transforming conservation practices based on principles of conviviality
  3. Setting up and supporting “convivial bioscapes” around the world
